Recreation tourism is highly developed in the Municipality of Hersonissos, and is the background of the touristic activity in the area since the 60s, when the first tourist accommodation was built. Hersonissos offers a rich and diverse leisure tourism experience with the aim to advance the quality of its services and to strengthen the position of a destination ideal for a vacation. The four alternating colors of the Hersonissos Municipality logo: green, blue, red and yellow stand for nature, recreation, culture and gastronomy, uniting the four Municipal Units.

Among the places to visit in order to complete your touristic experience is the Cretaquarium – Thalassocosmos, the biggest aquarium in Greece with sea creatures from the Mediterranean underwater world and the Island of Dia in order to come face to face with the fascination of the big blue Cretan Sea. On this tiny island the ecological and cultural aspect, as well as its unique biodiversity, are huge.
