The Municipality of Hersonissos offers a large number of Outdoor Adventure Experiences. The landscape invites nature lovers to explore it and discover its uniqueness. Extremely rich in fauna and flora, large areas of the region have been integrated in the NATURA 2000 ecological network: The island of Dia and the Forest of Azilakon (Azilakodasos). On Dia there are a number of protected creatures including snails, lizards, wild rabbits and the eagle called mavropetritis, as well as protected plants. It is also a vetted haunting ground. To the northeast of the village Krasi on the northern slopes of the Selena Mount, located at an altitude of 600 meters, is the Azilakon protected forest, which contains oaks and maples and is a natural environment for many protected kinds of birds.
