During the summer, each Monday at 20:00 o’ clock, in the beautiful square of the village of Chersonissos, the restaurateurs organize a traditional Cretan night with live music and traditional dances. Musical instrument players, singers and dancers will show you the authentic traditional music of all parts of Crete and they will entertain you with their traditional musical instruments and traditional dances. It is a Cretan feast in which traditional dishes are available for everyone to taste and thus experience the Cretan cuisine.

In general, visitors can enjoy the famous traditional food, wine and “tsikoudia” offered in the traditional taverns of the village and have fun under the sounds of Cretan music, learn to dance and in combination with the Cretan hospitality, will be an unforgettable experience for those who will visit it.

Chamber music of the highest calibre by four international artists of thundering austerity in Panagiotakis Garden Theatre in Episkopi Pediados.

The evening will begin with Benjamin Baker and Daniel Lebhardt, two extraordinary musicians with power, poetry and formidable technique. Both 1st prize winners οf major international competitions including the Young Concert Artists Auditions in both Paris and New York. They will present a program of works that will include the Mozart’s Violin Sonata No.18, Bartok’s Rhapsody No.1 for violin and piano, and Prokofiev’s Violin Sonata No.2 in D Major.

The evening will continue with Manu Brazo, an internationally awarded Sevillian born saxophonist, who will present works of Piazzolla, Spanish folk songs and Gershwin, accompanied by the Indonesian pianist Prajna Indrawati.

“To my personal Angel” and “Underworld”, two inspirational healing stories written and presented by the leading cardiologist, scientist, composer and author Dr Thanasis Dritsas in Cultural Association Museum of Episkopi Pediados.

Born just three months apart, Frederic Chopin and Robert Schumann, were long linked as pioneers of Romanticism and legend claims a kinship of souls between them, even though they were quite different artists with little personal contact and a different upbringing.

This evening Stephanie and Marianna Kapsetaki, internationally renowned for their unique achievements as pianists and scientists, will pool their artistry with leading musicians of the Athens State Orchestra, the Greek National Opera and the City of Athens Symphony Orchestras – Jannis Georgiadis, Asterios Pouftis, Nikos Pylarinos and Ilias Sdoukos (Quadro Armonico) in a glorious evening that will include Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and Schumann’s Piano Quintet.

In the beautiful square of Mohos village, during the summer months and specifically every Wednesday at 20:00 pm, a Cretan night with live music and traditional dances is organized.

Numerous tourists and locals enjoy the music-dancing program presented and taste the famous Cretan dishes and drinks such as wine and “raki”. In addition, the dance group of Mohos Cultural Association “Proodos” and experienced musicians present a program with music and dances from Crete and folk music of our country.

Visitors learn to sing and dance with the help of the dances of the Association and thus they have the chance to experience a Cretan traditional feast which lasts until the morning.

The evening will begin with an informative presentation by cardiologist, deputy Director of the Onassis Heart Centre in Athens, composer and author Dr Thanasis Dritsas entitled “Hospital Art”, about the exciting development of using art as a tool for healing patients in hospitals.

The final evening of this year’s festival promises to be a glorious one! The prize winners’ ceremony will come first, followed by a concert by Greek composer George Kayialikos who will present an exquisite collection of his latest works together with musicians Mika Kakaki, Dionysis Vervitsiotis, and the outstanding Greek vocalists Eftichia Mitritsa and Ifigenia Korologou. Special guest of the evening is the mythical Giovanna, an internationally-renowned Greek singer and author whose artistic achievements throughout her incredible long career are phenomenal.

The Theater Group of Women’s NGO “Irida” will present Aristophanes’ comedy The Birds in Epano Gouves, on Sunday, 15th July 2017, at 9:00 pm. The show will be free of charge (In Greek, without translation).

Concerning the play:

The Birds (Ornithes)was presented in 414BC in the City Dionysia and is considered the most successful work of Aristophanes.

It deals with civil and military practices –with no reference to what was happening then in Athens- in an attempt to describe an ideal society and to prove the certain failure of it. The Birds are the need of man to fly, to create a new world and to come in contact with his true desire.

Euelpides (Goodhope) and Pisthetaerus (Trustyfriend) are forced to leave Athens and to create their own city between land and sky. They named it “Nephelococcygian” or literally “cloud-cuckoo-land”. Unfortunately, in a while, there are found other people there too, that they want either to take part in the establishment of this city or to benefit from it. In this way, with this comedy, Aristophanes finds the opportunity to ridicule the slanderers and adulators of the municipality (of Athens) as well as the theories of new governments.
