The Cultural Association of Avdou organizes the football match of the year between the teams Astirakis Rangers and Melanies United on Monday 31st of July, at 18:30, at Hersonissos Stadium.

Astirakias Rangers team will represent the upper part of the village while Melanies United team will represent the lower part of the village.

During the summer, from May to October, each Monday at 20:00 o’ clock, in the beautiful square of the village of Hersonissos, the restaurateurs organize a traditional Cretan night with live music and traditional dances. Musical instrument players, singers and dancers will show you the authentic traditional music of all parts of Crete and they will entertain you with their traditional musical instruments and traditional dances. It is a Cretan feast in which traditional dishes are available for everyone to taste and thus experience the Cretan cuisine.

In general, visitors can enjoy the famous traditional food, wine and “tsikoudia” offered in the traditional taverns of the village and have fun under the sounds of Cretan music, learn to dance and in combination with the Cretan hospitality, will be an unforgettable experience for those who will visit it.

Counting over 50 years of experience, the baker of Avdou, Ioannis Jenakis, will introduce us to the secrets of “eptazimos” crispbreads (Greek traditional kind of bread). Ioannis Jenakis was producing for many years this kind of bread and he is a well-known baker in Crete.

On Tuesday, 1st of August 2017 at 19:00 at the former Primary School of Avdou, he will teach us how to make the “eptazimos” bread and crispbread, he will analyze some of his secrets concerning the recipe and give us the opportunity to taste this unique bread again.

The Cultural Association of Gouves in cooperation with the Municipality of Hersonissos organizes the theatrical performance Karagiozis Captain that will be presented by Athanasiou Shadow Play on Tuesday 1st of August, 2017 at 9:00 pm at the Primary School of Gouves with free admission to the public.

Concerning the story of the play:

The Athanasiou Theater Company presents the performance Karagiozis Captain. It is a performance adapted from the Greek folk tale with impressive alternations of scenes. Karagiozis dreams from a young age to travel and get to know the whole world. But because he does not have money, he does not hesitate to lie and declare himself to be a captain in order for his dream to come true.

Our folk hero is inviting young and old to come and be entertained with his jokes.

On Wednesday 2^nd of August, the Cultural Association of Potamies organizes a “Hidden Treasure Hunt” at 16:00. The hunt will start at the square of Agios Dimitrios (Beilikiko). The entry forms will be accepted until Wednesday 02/08 during the hours 13:00 – 15:30 at the Former Primary School of Potamies.

The members of the winning team will have the opportunity to visit the ACQUA PLUS Water Park for free.

The Cultural Association of Avdou organizes a euchre tournament on Wednesday 2nd and Friday 4th of August at 17:00.

The games will be held at the tavern “To Avdou” whose owner is Sifis Papasifakis.

On Wednesday, the qualifiers will be held while on Friday the semi-finals and finals will be taken place.

The winner will win a dinner offered by the tavern that will host the tournament.

In the beautiful square of Mohos village, during the summer months and specifically every Wednesday at 20:00 pm, a Cretan night with live music and traditional dances is organized.

Numerous tourists and locals enjoy the music-dancing program presented and taste the famous Cretan dishes and drinks such as wine and “raki”. In addition, the dance group of Mohos Cultural Association “Proodos” and experienced musicians present a program with music and dances from Crete and folk music of our country.

Visitors learn to sing and dance with the help of the dances of the Association and thus they have the chance to experience a Cretan traditional feast which lasts until the morning.

The Cultural Association of Episkopi with the technical support of the Young Initiative of Mesa Mouliana “ARGILOS CHAMPIONSHIP” and the support of the Municipality of Hersonissos, organize the 2nd Backgammon tournament.

The tournament will be held at the Cultural Association of Episkopi, located near Episkopi square and more specifically in the neighborhood of Mazani, on Sunday 16th of July 2017 and the start time is at 10:00 am. The cost of participation is 5€.

The first round of the groups will be completed by noon and the second knockout round will be held in the same venue.

The winner will be announced at the same day, after the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals, and winners will get trophies and many gifts as sponsor’s offers.

In addition, during the tournament there will be a buffet and treat for players and their companions.

On Saturday 5^th of August at 9 pm, the Cultural Association of Potamies organizes a Traditional Serenade in the beautiful streets of Potamies along with Manolis Stamatakis and Manolis Farsaris.

The Cultural Association of Avdou organizes a Traditional Food Night. Flavored and well cooked food and delicious traditional sweets will be cooked by the women of Avdou and the cooks of the Cultural Association of Avdou while the band of Kostis Saridakis will be playing their traditional Cretan music.

On Saturday, 5th of August in 2017, the Cultural Association of Anopolis organizes a Disco Night under the name “Remembering the Golden Decade of 80s”.

Manolis Stefanakis is playing cretan traditional songs at Stamni, on August 5th, 2017. The event is organised by the Cultural Assotiation of Stamni and the Municipality of Hersonissos.

The 9th Lost Treasure Hunt is organized in order to offer unique emotions and amazing experiences. Those of you who want to participate and find the treasure, just organize a team of 5 to 7 people and bring at least one smartphone with you. You will have to run, so eat as light as possible and the only means allowed is bicycle. The first puzzle will be announced at 18:00 at the plane tree (Platanos). Do not forget to bring a torch!

On Sunday 6^th of August at the Former Primary School of Potamies at 7:00 pm, the Cultural Association of Potamies organizes the event “The Old Play”. The forms of participation will be accepted at the Former Primary School of Potamies at 6:00 pm. The participation is allowed for people over the age of 17.

The Children’s Play “Mrs. Sidore and Grammar as a Fairytale” is going to be put on at Panagiotakis Garden Theater in Episkopi Pediados. The start time is at 21:00 and the entrance is free. (In Greek, no translation).

Mrs. Sidore gives a touch of fun in the learning process and promises to impress once again the young and old spectators. Grammar animates through fantastic stories and wonderful melodies in order to be forever in children’s minds.

The Cultural Association of Gonies Pediados organizes a Cretan Night with Michalis Tzouganakis on Sunday, 6th of August.
