“Kapetan Michalis” is one of the leading literary works of the great Cretan writer, Nikos Kazantzakis, to whom the year 2017 is dedicated and has been declared as the Year of Nikos Kazantzakis.
In this novel of Nikos Kazantzakis, the fundamental contrasts of people, the pure patriotic feeling, love, everyday life (violent and comical at the same time), the successive revolts and frustration reveal the anthropological depth of the work and place it out of its historical context making it timeless and currently relevant.
