Female SchoolThe Female School of Malia was built in the early 20th century and during the Second World War the Germans invaders used it as a club for the Germans officials’ ladies. After the Greek Liberation, it was used as a food store.

The building is a remarkable example of the category of special buildings (schools) of the Modern Greek period. It is connected with the history of the settlement and is an important example for the study of the history of architecture. In 1997, it was designated as a historical preservable monument (Government Gazette 600/B/4-8-1997) which is subject to the special state protection in accordance with Greek and European legislation.

As far as its current state is concerned, it is used as a space for paintings exhibitions and other cultural activities, as well as a meeting point for the elderly where they can plan events. In short it is the building of the local Open Care Center for the Elderly (“KAPI” in Greek).
