The standard bike ride for young and old along the Aposelemis dam is on Monday 7th of August in 2017. The starting point is at Platanos (plane tree) and the start time is at 17:00.

During the summer, from May to October, each Monday at 20:00 o’ clock, in the beautiful square of the village of Hersonissos, the restaurateurs organize a traditional Cretan night with live music and traditional dances. Musical instrument players, singers and dancers will show you the authentic traditional music of all parts of Crete and they will entertain you with their traditional musical instruments and traditional dances. It is a Cretan feast in which traditional dishes are available for everyone to taste and thus experience the Cretan cuisine.

In general, visitors can enjoy the famous traditional food, wine and “tsikoudia” offered in the traditional taverns of the village and have fun under the sounds of Cretan music, learn to dance and in combination with the Cretan hospitality, will be an unforgettable experience for those who will visit it.

Foteini Velesiotou, a famous Greek singer is singing in Avdou on Monday 7th of August in 2017. Sotiris Ballas, a new talented singer will appear with Foteini Velesiotou.

On Monday 7th of August in 2017, at the Minoan Palace of Malia, at 21:30 pm, the concert of Mario Fragoulis “The Heart A Little Island” will be held. Thodoris Voutsikakis, Dimitra Selemidou and the choir of Malia will participate.
The entrance is free.

The event is organized by the Choir of Malia, with the collaboration of the Region of Crete, the Municipality of Hersonissos and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Heraklion.

Mario Fragoulis will perform Greek and foreign songs signed by the most important composers.

The Cultural Association of Avdou organizes a backgammon tournament on Tuesday 8th of August in 2017 at 17:00. The tournament will take place at the café of Rodanthis Asiminaki.

On Tuesday 8^th of August at the Former Primary School of Potamies at 19:00, the Cultural Association of Potamies organizes the event “The Kids Play”.  Horse Riding, Egg Riding, Handkerchief (mantilaki) and the “King” of Spaghetti are some of the games suitable for all ages.

The forms of participation will be accepted at the Former Primary School of Potamies at 18:00.

“Health Approach in the 21st Century (Prevention, Nutrition of Cells and Energy Balance of the Body)” is a seminar concerning health issues by Mrs. Vasiliki I. Badouna, Biopathologist-Microbiologist. How can we take our health and our lives into our own hands and become the doctors of ourselves?

On Wednesday 9^th of August at 18:00, the Cultural Association of Potamies organizes a cross-country race of various categories of participants from young children to old ones. The forms of participation will be accepted at the Former Primary School of Potamies on Wednesday 09/08 and during the hours 10:00 – 16:00 or by phone 6979675479.

At the end of the races, Capoeira demonstration from the Capoeira Cordão de Ouro Crete athletes and the awards of the winners will follow and then we will have fun at the wonderful Karaoke Night in the yard of the yard of the Former Primary School.

The Merchant Club of Hersonissos organizes Cretan and Laiko (Greek music genre composed in Greek language in accordance with the tradition of Greeks) Nights, every Wednesday and Thursday from 20:00 to 22:00 in all the central locations of Hersonissos. At each event, the Merchant Club of Hersonissos offers free treats such as raki.

In the beautiful square of Mohos village, during the summer months and specifically every Wednesday at 20:00 pm, a Cretan night with live music and traditional dances is organized.

Numerous tourists and locals enjoy the music-dancing program presented and taste the famous Cretan dishes and drinks such as wine and “raki”. In addition, the dance group of Mohos Cultural Association “Proodos” and experienced musicians present a program with music and dances from Crete and folk music of our country.

Visitors learn to sing and dance with the help of the dances of the Association and thus they have the chance to experience a Cretan traditional feast which lasts until the morning.

“Psarotromaras” (the person that scares fish) is a theatrical play by the Kou-Klo Theater of Crete that is going to be performed in Avdou. It is a theatrical play that talks about democracy, cooperation and solidarity. It is suitable for people for 3 to 93 years old.

The Women’s Association “VRITOMARTIS” in cooperation with the Municipality of Hersonissos organizes the theatrical performance Karagiozis Captain that will be presented by Athanasiou Shadow Play on Thursday 10th of August, 2017 at 9:00 pm in Ano Hersonissos with free admission to the public.

The Athanasiou Theater Company presents the performance Karagiozis Captain. It is a performance adapted from the Greek folk tale with impressive alternations of scenes. Karagiozis dreams from a young age to travel and get to know the whole world. But because he does not have money, he does not hesitate to lie and declare himself to be a captain in order for his dream to come true.

Our folk hero is inviting young and old to come and be entertained with his jokes.

On Saturday 12th of August at 10 pm to 6am, the standard Youth Night returns for one more year. Everyone, regardless of age, is invited in a special night with souvlaki, drinks and fun!

The Cultural Association of Gonies Pediados organizes a youth party full of fun and dance on Saturday 12th of August. Giannis Iordanidis will be the DJ of the event. The start time is at 10:00 pm and the entrance is free.

The standard youth party returns on Saturday, 12th of August in 2017. It is a night full of dancing, joy and music for the young people of the village. Yiannis Kayiabakis from the Family Radio 89.5 will deal with the music of the event.

A unique musical and dancing performance of the children of Avdou will take place on Sunday 13th of August 2017 in the yard of the former Primary School of Avdou.

The Theater of Crete presents the play “Ta Vedouzopotira” (cups used for therapeutic purposes in order to treat influenza and cold) by Roula Orphanoudaki.

The play is a hilarious Cretan ethography that presents the stories of pure, honest and traditional Cretans, in a village in Crete. Through their characters, they impart the folkway of this blessed place. Laughter and emotion are constantly alternated with each other, as it happens in our real and daily life. The play is embellished with traditional music that emphasizes even more the culture of our country.
