The European Team Chess Championship is held in Hersonissos, at Creta Maris Hotel from October 27th, 2017 to November 6th, 2017. The chess clubs of Heraklion and Hersonissos in co-organization with the District of Crete – Regional Unity of Heraklion, the Municipality of Hersonissos and the Community Organization of Hersonissos organize the championship.
This is a great event that will bring hundreds of people from thirty-eight (38) countries to the island of Crete while millions of online visitors will watch the games live. (chess24.com)
The stars of the world chess will be in the games too, including the No. 2 of the world and World Cup holder, Armenian Levon Aronian (won it just a month ago). In addition, Azeri Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (No. 5 in the World), Russian Alexander Grischuk (No. 7 in the World), Dutch Anish Giri (No 13 in the World), Azeri Teimour Radjabov (No 17 in the World) and a number of other top chess players worldwide will take part.
Simultaneously with the European Team Chess Championship, at the same venue, the World Youth U14, U16, U18 Rapid & Blitz Chess Championships 2017 will be organized from 28th to 30th of October.
In addition, from 28th of October to 5th of November, an important tournament for the region, the 1st International Hersonissos Tournament, will be held in the same place, with the aim of setting it up every autumn from now on.
The second event of the European Chess Union, as well as a FIDE (World Chess Federation) Trainers’ Seminar is added to the program of those events.
